Most people have a critical voice in their head. 

It's normal, but that doesn't mean it's OK. 

In fact, it's harming you. 

Your critical voice ... 

  • Criticizes you for being the way you are 

      This is the essence of shame, according to Brené Brown. 

       In other words, your critical voice is shaming you. 

  • Keeps you from speaking up and fully showing up

      It generates so much self-doubt, perhaps from imposter syndrome, that you stay quiet. 

       Or it anticipates failure, so you don't really try because what's the point? 

       That's a self-fulfilling prophecy - you fear failure, so you don't try, so you fail. 

  • Creates mental and physical stress 

       A constant thought-stream of criticism, fear, anxiety, anticipation of rejection and failure,

       and so on, is stressful. It shuts down your thinking ability and your creativity. Over time, it            damages your health. You even age faster.

  • Keeps you in the fight, flight, freeze emergency mode

       This keeps you looking for threats. You may see threats where there are none.

How To Change Deep Patterns

Like the Critical Voice 

The situation is: We have a lot of programming

 in our heads that is not serving us. 

Fortunately we are not that programming.  

That programming is simply patterns in our neural networks. They can be changed. 

How, exactly? 

By using the neuroscience of rapid change, as I call it.  

In neuroscience it's called memory reconsolidation.

The Five Steps to Changing a Neural Network

The brain updates itself with these same steps. It's a natural process we can use. 

The 5 steps:  

1) Identify the neural network we want to change (the critical voice in this case).
